Section 8 Housing

Overview

This HUD-funded program allows low-income families to lease affordable rental units on the private market. A “voucher” is issued to an eligible participant that allows them to seek housing anywhere in the country at predetermined subsidy levels. The Wilmington Housing Authority does not own or maintain Section 8 housing. These are privately-owned dwellings rented to residents who receive subsidies based on their income levels.

Admissions

Eligibility for Section 8 is based on income with most residents paying 30% of their adjusted income. The set amount is paid toward rent and utilities, based on their adjusted gross income.
